All of the furniture was meticulously re-modelled in Blender. Celebrating the rattan wicker weave across an infinitely expandable modular system meant it was extremely important to recreate the exact pattern as efficiently as possible.
Extensive R&D culminated in two distinct CAD versions of the furniture. One method was used for distance renders and e-commerce - modelling a continuous shell for each wicker component, with tucked edge seams. By carefully unwrapping the UV coordinates, the direction of the wicker could be positioned with millimeter accuracy. This allowed for the Keyshot-generated realcloth wicker material to terminate naturally across the different weave directions.
The second method involved hand-weaving a recreation of the wicker in Blender, creating physical geometry that was perfect for closeup shots such as the video sequences. This achieved amazing results but was not suitable for the -meter-plus expanded versions of the chaise sofa, which were needed in the e-commerce renders.
